About White Rose Code

A small studio with a long view.

Who we are

White Rose Code is an independent UK software studio. We make desktop software, one product at a time, with a deliberately small scope and a long view on what users actually need.

The studio is a one-person operation founded and run by Mike. Mike has worked in IT since the age of nineteen — starting as a computer programmer and moving into technical support. His employers have ranged from small developers to giants like IBM, where he supported major corporate customers, keeping more than 4,000 staff systems and the servers behind them running. Later, government work took him into large databases, hunting for anomalies and presenting findings at every level from team leader to CEO.

He has kept his skills current throughout: A Level Computer Science, NVQ Levels 1, 2 and 3 in IT (passed in a matter of weeks), and most recently a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science with a focus on Software Development and Communications, completed in 2024. SceneWeaver is the result of more than forty years of watching the user become the product instead of the product being improved for the user — and deciding to do better.

What we believe

Much of today's software is designed for someone other than the person using it — for advertisers, for data brokers, for the platform itself. Even paid software increasingly treats its users as a source of data to be sold on.

That's not how we want to build. White Rose Code software is built on a few simple commitments:

  • Your work stays yours. We never read, upload, or analyse what you create.
  • Pay once. No subscription, no recurring squeeze.
  • No copy protection that gets in your way. Your exports are clean, standard, and take you wherever you want to go.
  • No surveillance. Optional, anonymous usage data only — never the content of your work.
  • Quiet by design. No notifications, no nags, no upsell prompts. The software stays out of your way.

How we make a living

White Rose Code is funded by the people who buy our software. There's no venture capital, no advertising, no data brokers. Our incentives are simple: make something people are happy to pay for, and look after them once they have.

If you'd like to support what we do, try SceneWeaver or recommend it to another writer who'd appreciate it.
